Nascar Track Information

(Updated:  04-11-05)

This is a current listing of tracks NASCAR frequents in the Nextel Cup, NBS and Craftsman Truck Series.  It is sorted in alpha order and includes a phone number for ticket information along with the track website.

Another feature on this page will include track reviews from fans.  If you would like to share your traveling experience with other JB fans, you may email us at support@johnnybenson.com

Hotels by the airport can be easy to book with no minimum nights required. .  (JBFC 01-05)

One word: GO!  Oh yeah: And let somebody else drive. (A bus works nicely...)   (Alan 04/05)

At Bristol, I never attempt to park in a parking lot. It seems that they can be very difficult to get out of. I always park on the highway, usually about a half mile to a mile from the track. It's a pretty good walk, but you can pass cars sitting in traffic on foot. Of course the earlier you get there the better spot you can get. I'd say Alan's tip of riding a bus would be the best way to and from the track.     As far as seating, I've always been pleased with my seat, no matter where it was at.
The most important thing at Bristol is earplugs...if you don't use a scanner with full headsets. There are usually plenty of folks selling earplugs outside the track.     (Mike 04/05)

*California

I live in Orange County about 30 miles from California Speedway. I think one of the most important things to remember is that Ontario Airport is only 10 minutes from the track straight up the I10! Ontario is a large airport with lots of flights. You want to avoid LAX at ALL COST!  There
are lots of Hotels/Motels it the Ontario/ Rancho Cucamonga/Fontana area. Generally Ontario & Rancho Cucamonga are much nicer than Fontana which is very much more Industrial. The Ontario Mills mall is also in the immediate area.

I10 and I15 cross just to the west of the track. I usually enter the track from I15 rather than from the I5. If you are staying in Ontario try going east on 4th St. under the I15 and turn left at Etiwanda Ave.  then right on Napa to enter the track from the west.

The San Bernadino mountains are only ten to twenty miles away and are in the 5 to 8 thousand feet high. They will have lots of snow on them in February. The September date is when the smog is bad and the mountains are obscured. The wind blows in from the ocean and the Fontana area gets all of LA's smog.   (Fred Yeakel 01/05)

*Daytona - 386-253-7223
daytonainternationalspeedway.com

My suggestion for the Daytona Races - Anytime you can park across the track towards I-95 is a plus. Yes - it may cost you at least $50, but it gives you an easy access to the highway. Sure beats the 4 hour traffic jam.  (Barb Benson  12/04)

One of the things I like about Daytona is the Volusia mall right across the street from the track. DW was signing books there last year.   This Daytona 500 will be my 4th and the past years that I have been there PRN did their radio shows live from there. Schedules are posted in the mall so if you want to see a specific driver you can make plans for it.

Another thing I found out from experience is that the Superstretch hospitality package has gone far down hill. This is now known as the Green Flag Club. They have become way overpriced, yet the quality has gone down. Other fans seems to be disappointed last year too. The biggest benefit of it was having a tent overhead the year before last during the rain. I basically paid the majority of $200 for some cover that year from the rain! If you want the pre race access you can purchase that separately for $85 which will get you around pit road and now in the new "Fan Zone".  (Joe 12/04)

*Dover - 800-441-RACE
doverspeedway.com

As for traffic coming in or leaving the Dover track on Route 13 or SR1...it's hurry up and wait.  Though traffic has been running more smoothly the last few years, I'd suggest adding on at least two hours to a normal drive to the area, especially on Sunday.  Some people take scenic
Rte. 9 to go around the madhouse on the main drag.  It really isn't too bad the other two days.  If you are coming from the west and don't need to leave via 13...you can park in the residential area near Silver Lake for free or pay a fee to one of the local businesses selling parking spaces on
Governor's Ave. near the lake but closer to the track.  You avoid the traffic and the walk is about 20 minutes or less to the Dover Downs property limits.  There is a shuttle that runs from Blue Hen Corporate Center on Rte. 113 to the track  and back.  I believe the cost is about $15.00.  Ask about the times for the last shuttles back...you don't want to be left behind.  It's located about
10 minutes south of the track (on a normal day)  where the road splits into 113/13...with 113 bearing to the left.  The B.H.Corporate Center is a "spit away" after the split on the north bound side.  There are restaurants galore in Dover...from fast food to fine dining.  Some of the more popular places near Dover Downs...Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Fridays, Lone Star, Ruby Tuesday, Applebee's, Numero Uno Chicago Bar,  Shuckers (fish), and La Tolteca (Mexican).  There are oodles more within a 10-20 minutes drive.  My favorite is Cool Springs, but it's
off the beaten path.   (PS...Delaware has a no smoking rule in all restaurants).

Unless you have reservations...most of the area motels are sold out 2 years in advance.  You can try most northern or southern Delaware...and neighboring states.  We're a tiny state...so a lot is within driving distance.

As for entertainment...not much to report.  The casino is right next to the track.  (Doesn't open on Sunday till after noon).  Dover Mall abuts to the track as well.  The beaches are about an hour south...Rehoboth is the main attraction with  Lewes (near the Cape May Lewes Ferry compound) and Cape Henlopen as other beaches that are popular.  There are a few museums around
town and several bars for night life activities.  (Smithers downtown, The Lobby House on Loockermann St. and the Sheraton on 13, etc).  If you're heading our way...have fun and be safe.

We went to the Busch race there last year. We stayed in St Louis. There was a lot to do there, and there are a ton of hotels. The race track is pretty cool, very odd shaped, and the 2 ends are completely different from one another. The race track had concerts and other events going on all day in between qualifying and practice.  The track was easy to get in to and fairly easy to get out of. All in all it was a good trip and not too costly! I would go there again for sure!

We spent 10 days at Charlotte last year. first visit. We stayed near the airport, right off the highway. Saw races almost every day. Drove around to lots of shops. Loved the festival downtown. Even went to a fundraiser with Elliot and Hermie Sadler that included DW, Hammond, Richard Petty, DJ, Sterling, all racing go carts. It was a total blast. Loved the track, 1.5 mile track IS a great size for stock cars. If anyone has an opportunity to go, don't pass it up.  Jan  (03-08-05)

I'VE BEEN TO THE TWO ASA RACES THERE.  VERY VERY VERY NICE FACILITY.  EVERYTHING IS BRAND NEW.  EXCELLENT SIGHT LINES.    IF YOU PLAN ON GOING TO THE TRUCK RACE, ORDER YOUR TICKETS RIGHT NOW!!  I'VE ALREADY GOT MINE.  THE MAIN STANDS HOLD ABOUT 8,000 WITH SOME LOWER SECONDARY STANDS TOWARD TURNS 1 AND 2.  THEY ALSO HAVE A GENERAL ADMISSION AREA ON THE GRASS HILL IN TURNS 3 AND 4.  FOR THE TRUCK RACE, THEY ADD MANY HIGH TEMPORARY STANDS ON THE BACK STRETCH.  MY TICKETS ARE ON THE BACK STRETCH IN ROW 32 OR 34 RIGHT AT PIT ENTRANCE.  SHOULD BE GREAT SEATS.  THEY HAVE PLENTY OF PARKING.  THEY'RE GOING TO NEED IT AS LAST YEAR THEY SOLD OUT WITH OVER TWENTY THOUSAND PEOPLE THERE.

THE TRACK HOWEVER IS REALLY A ONE GROOVED TRACK, EVEN THOUGH IT IS HIGH BANK.  THE BANKING IS PROGRESSIVE, THAT IS, THE HIGHER ON THE TRACK, THE HIGHER THE BANKING.  THE GROOVE IS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE.  UNLESS YOUR VEHICLE IS 3 TENTHS FASTER THAN THE GUY YOU'RE TRYING TO PASS, THE ONLY WAY AROUND IS THEM TO MAKE A MISTAKE AND SLIDE UP OR FOR YOU TO USE THE CHROME HORN.  THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED AT LAST YEARS TRUCK RACE, LOTS OF BUMPING AND BANGING.  CHECK OUT THEIR WEB SITE.  IT HAS PIC'S AND ALL THE INFO YOU'LL NEED.

Not sure if any of you guys are into camping, but Fairystone Park is near the track & the prices are really great! Over the years we hooked up with quite a few JB fans.  (Geno - 02-05)

We make the trip to Martinsville every spring and fall from Grand Rapids, Michigan, we camp right at the track $40.00 for the week, but they are going to reserve camping this year. people are great, tickets are reasonable, lot of stuff to do. if not camping parking is pretty easy in and out each day. i would still plan to arrive early. there is really not a bad ticket in the place, good track to meet drivers and get autographs on Fridays and Saturdays. anyone needs any other information leave a note here or email us at wwooddoo10@yahoo.com  (

Traffic can be an issue - be sure to leave in plenty of time to see the race!  (JBFC - 04/05)

*Milwaukee - 414-453-8277

The Milwaukee Mile is a very fan friendly track.  Be prepared to drink beer and eat brats!!  I sit in row 18 on the front stretch for the Busch race.  When the cars are on the back stretch, I can see the car from just below the driver's window on up.  I sit in row 22 on turn 1 for the truck race, and that is an awesome seat!!  I see the trucks coming down pit road, and can see them clearly around the whole track.  The souvenier trailers are right behind the grandstand.  There aren't many, but enough are there for you to spend some money.  Parking is available on the State Fair Park/Milwaukee Mile grounds for a fee.  There is a good amount of parking available on the city streets just south of the track....it only a couple block walk.  There are several hotels by General Mitchell International Airport.  That is only a 10-15 minute drive south on I-894 east.  Hope this helps.  John Medrow   (05-28-05)
