Benson To
Start 40th At Indy
#10 Valvoline Pontiac driver Johnny Benson has his work cut
out for him Sunday at the Brickyard 400.
Benson will start 40th for the 2.30 p.m. race after posting
the 38th quickest
qualifying time in Saturday's two-lap qualifications.
Benson will take the fourth provisional. Only the team's
second of the season.
Benson who practiced 25th on Friday struggled on the hot
slippery track on
Saturday.
"We just slid all over the place," Benson said. "It's
disappointing, but we have Happy Hour this afternoon and
then 400 miles tomorrow."
Many of the cars that went before and after Benson qualified
in overcast
conditions while Benson contended with the hot sun on his
qualifying run.
"We didn't get real lucky with the draw, but there isn't
much you can do about
that," Benson said. "Qualifying was tough today, but you
know we have tomorrow and that can change everything."
Kevin Harvick won the pole with Ryan Newman second and Bill
Elliott third.
NBC will televise Sunday's race with the pre-race show
beginning at 1 p.m.
