Rain puts Benson 26th at Charlotte

Heavy rain Friday morning cancelled qualifying for Sunday's Nascar Winston Cup race in Charlotte. The rain means Johnny Benson will start 26th in his
Valvoline Pontiac because Nascar determined the starting lineup by car owner
points.

Eighteen of 49 cars entered in Sunday's race completed their qualifying
attempts Thursday night before intermittent showers forced suspension of the
session. Qualifying was scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. Eastern time Friday, with the speeds already posted to stand.

Because the rest of the field did not get an attempt at qualifying the previous
times were erased. Benson and his teammates will have two 45-minute practice
sessions Saturday morning then race on Sunday.
