at Kansas Johnny
Benson knows the #10 Valvoline Pontiac he is racing at
Kansas Speedway this weekend likes racing on Sundays a lot
more than qualifying on Fridays.
This car adorned with the Zerex paint scheme for Sunday's
race hasn't qualified real well this season but on race day
has often proved to be one of the fastest on the track.
He hopes that trend continues this weekend after qualifying
35th on Friday on the 1.5-mile oval in Kansas.
"For some reason this car seems to race a lot better than it
qualifies," Benson said. "I think it will be like that this
weekend as well."
Benson and the Valvoline team were midpack through practice
on Friday.
But Benson said he isn't discouraged.
"At Michigan we started way back and came to the front
pretty good with this car and I have no doubt we can do that
here Sunday," Benson said. "We will just have to get to work
on it tomorrow. I think our race setup is going to be
pretty good."
Benson and his crew chef James Ince will have 90 minutes of
practice time Saturday morning to get ready for Sunday's
race.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the pole with Jimmie Johnson and Ryan
Newman finishing second and third.
Sunday's race begins at 1 p.m. (Eastern) on NBC
