Benson 22nd at Dover
#10 Valvoline Pontiac driver
Johnny Benson knows Sunday at Dover International Speedway
is going to be a lot more fun that Friday afternoon during
Nascar Winston Cup qualifying.
That's because Benson believes that his Pontiac will race a
lot better than it
qualified and it qualified 22nd on the concrete high banks
of Dover.
"I like our race car a lot," Benson said after the two-lap
run. "It wasn't what
we really needed in practice because it got real loose. But,
come Sunday I
think we will benefit from having this car."
Benson practiced 14th during the early morning session
Friday, but did all he
could to get a respectable qualifying run in the heat of the
afternoon.
"It was just a little slippery during qualifying. We
expected it would maybe be
a little slick so we tightened it up. We just didn't go far
enough."
Benson said he isn't worried.
"But, I'm real happy with the car. I'm not worried about
that qualifying spot,
although I feel like we could have qualified a little bit
better. But by the
same token, I feel it will run that speed all day long on
Sunday, which is what
I'm looking forward to."
Rusty Wallace won the pole and will be joined on the front
row by Dale Jarrett.
Dale Jr. qualified third.
Sunday's race begins at 1 p.m. on TNT.
