Wallace 36th at Chicagoland

#10 Valvoline Pontiac driver Mike Wallace qualified 36th Friday at Chicagoland
Speedway.

Wallace was the 39th of the 49 cars making a qualifying attempt on the 1.5-mile oval. He was the 24th quickest in morning practice, but slid high in the first turn on his qualifying run dropping him to the final spot before drivers who had to take provisionals.

Wallace is replacing Johnny Benson who is recovering from three displaced ribs suffered in a wreck at Daytona last weekend. Jerry Nadeau will take over driving duties on Monday at the team's test at Indianapolis and remain the driver until Benson's return.

Benson did not make the trip to Chicago but is expected to be with the team at Indianapolis as an observer at the test session.

Ryan Newman won the pole for the race that begins Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time.
