September 2003I
would like to know if Johnny would be interested in doing
one of the cruises like Rusty is doing this year, next year?
I know of 4 or 5 couples that would really like a chance to
go on one with Johnny? Cliff aka
ancsandman
Sorry - Cliff. This is not something Johnny is
interested in doing
I'd like to know, if funds
were unlimited, what would be the one single thing they
would do to improve performance. Eric Smith
**Note - I asked
this question to Johnny and James at different times and
they both had the same answer
Add technology and engineer support including a test team
The James Gang has really
improved in their pit stop times. What did the team do
to get this improvement? Joyce - nutz4jbingr
Added
Gary Smith to their staff. They changed personnel
whose main focus during the week is pit stops - versus
working solely on the car
What was it like being a
teammate with Boris Said for 2 races this season?
Jeff Dingy
Johnny did not have much interaction with him during the
Winston Cup race, but did have an opportunity to work with
him at a test session at VIR. He did not share any of
his speed secrets though!
This is a question for the
spotter. 1) At which track do you dread spotting the most?
2) Which track should improve its accommodations for
spotters? 3) Does your familiarity with the other
spotter styles affect how you advise JB when he is near
other cars? Mew1701 - Matthew
1)
Daytona. 2) All of them. The spotters need
more room to work. 3) Yes, I know all the
spotters which helps me when I am working on Sundays
1). What are the
main differences between the 2003 Pontiac and the one you
drove in previous seasons? 2) Except for road courses
- what track really is the hardest to make passes on?
DE4JB
1)
The difference is rules and regulations that NASCAR makes
with the templates. 2) Daytona and Talladega -
restrictor plate and single groove race track like Bristol
I know that shops can
receive upwards of thousands of resumes yearly from people
looking to get involved in NASCAR somehow. What is the
overall companies such as Race City Resumes? Kelley -
puzzler015
Not familiar with that company. Most of the
applications that come through MBV gets directed to James
Ince, Crew Chief for Valvoline Racing.
With all the talk about
the Kurt Busch and Jimmy Spencer confrontation, many drivers
have said things like that happen all the time, but usually
not physical. We would like to know if Johnny has ever
had a shouting or shoving match with another driver.
Sean10
No, Johnny has not been involved in shouting or
shouting match with another driver in NASCAR.
From both a driver's and a
crew chief's perspective, which type of track surface do you
prefer - concrete or asphalt, and why? **Note
- I asked both James and Johnny this question at
different times and they both agreed.
Asphalt. It is the surface that 90% of the race tracks
have and that it what they are conditioned to race on.
What do you guys think of
some of these teams that show up at the last minute with a
provisional. They qualify 2 or 3 mph slower than the
slowest and make the show and force some full time teams to
use their last provisionals. jld10
They
are okay with the provisional program.
How is Johnny's table
coming along? The one he is making out of his race car.
Sabrina - smurfy2.
The
project is moving along slowly. The car is cubed and
in Johnny's shop - just waiting for the glass to be worked
on.
Are Johnny and the other
Pontiac drivers / teams satisfied with the 2003 Pontiac
performance? Rabbit - Evan
No.
We would like to be quicker and need to work harder to be
more competitive.
