Michael Fires

Mr. Michael H. Fires, aged 53, of Marne, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 10, 2007. Surviving are his wife of six years, Kathy; his son, Ron (Chelsea) Slocum; his brother, Steve (Diane) Fires; sister, Pam (Riley) Cavanaugh; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy; and grandniece, Hannah Rose. Mike was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed by everyone. Mike was an antique buff, he enjoyed restoring most anything especially cars. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and an employee of Steelcase. The Funeral Service will be conducted Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors Sunday 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arsulowicz Brothers, Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd. Scott Seaton

Family, friends and the auto racing community are mourning the loss of Scott Seaton, age 51, of Cedar Springs. Seaton, a sprint car driver, died on Saturday, May 5, 2007 doing what he loved at the Auto City Speedway in Clio, MI. Scott was part of the West Michigan racing family for over 30 years, starting out in full-bodied cars before moving to sprint cars 17 year ago. Scott was an auto body estimator and manager by trade but, auto racing was his passion. He always had time for fans and had a soft spot for children. He was a dedicated friend and passionate racer. He will be missed intensely by his crew who spent countless hours with Scott working on the car, traveling and racing on the weekends. Scott's presence will be missed by acquaintances and grieved by those who loved him. Scott is survived by his mother, Barbara Etchison, of Ludington, MI; his father, Jim Eagan, of Anaheim, CA; and his adopted father, Yandell Sterling Seaton of Jonesville, MI. He also leaves behind his daughter, Lacey Chiattello; his son-in law, Nathan and his grandchildren, Anthony and Hope of Cedar Rapids, IA. He is also survived by step-sons Nick and Chris Landon of Grand Rapids, MI. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 12 at the Oak Grove Funeral Home at 3060 US 10, Ludington, MI from 1 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions in Scott's memory can be made to the Super Sprints Benevolent Fund c/o Auto Value Super Sprints, 11622 M-60 West, Three Rivers, MI 49093 or the Humane Society of Kent County, 3077 Wilson NW, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49534.
